ABOUT WHALESTOOTH
About Us
Founded in 1971 by Albert and Ruth Tillman, Whalestooth has been located in the same place near Doe Bay on Orcas Island for half a century.
Al and Ruth had an antique shop in California before opening Whalestooth and brought that expertise to the Northwest. Al ran antique shows, appraisal fairs and rare book shows throughout Western Washington for many decades and wrote several books on collecting.
Now owned by Al and Ruth’s children, Tom and Laura, Whalestooth has a large online business and the shop is still open by appointment only. Tom’s wife Stephanie joined Whalestooth in 1989 and has been part of the business ever since. Between Laura, Tom and Stephanie, they have over 150 years in the antiques and collectibles business.
Appraisals
We would love to see, and possibly buy, your treasures. However, we also offer a written appraisal service billed on an hourly basis. To maintain the high standards we believe in for our appraisals, Whalestooth will not purchase or consign items that we have been hired to appraise. Upon request we will help guide you to venues where you can sell your items.
The Shop
Located on Bond Mill Road on Orcas Island, Whalestooth Antiques and Collectibles is one of the longest running businesses in San Juan County still in the same location and owned by the same family. We are open by appointment only.
Call Tom’s cell at (360) 842-7815 to set up a visit.
